Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

Logan & Cove Choice: Luxurious or Too Soft?

Our Verdict

Logan & Cove Choice Mattress is advertised as luxurious, but it doesn’t impress compared to similarly priced and constructed competitors. This 12” height hybrid mattress lacks firmness, causing discomfort and concern for the model’s durability. On top of the softer feel, this mattress does not offer enough bounce to balance it out, causing a sinking sensation that could lead to difficulty getting in and out of bed.

I’ve noticed the Logan & Cove Choice has similar issues to other hybrid mattresses, such as lack of motion isolation, but I was quite surprised to see that this mattress does not excel in our cooling evaluations either. Common customer complaints include a “sinking in” feel, skewing soft, and causing back pains, which I found to be true from my own experience sleeping on this mattress. I have also noticed that Logan & Cove does not allow you to filter or sort reviews, so be aware of the 5-star reviews you see, as it’s not a universal experience. The only consolation is that the mattress has a 365-night trial, and the return process is quite smooth. For the best value for money in a hybrid that excels in performance, I prefer options such as Casper Atlas Hybrid and Endy Hybrid.

Purchasing and Returns

One downside to this mattress is that you cannot try it out in-store before purchasing it, as it is available online only. However, the 365-night trial puts you at ease if you ever want to return it. Customers have expressed that Logan & Cove’s returns are simple and straightforward.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Logan & Cove Choice Mattress arrived at my doorstep in a vacuum-compressed package, which was quite easy to manoeuvre but felt lighter than expected. I assumed this was due to the airy construction of the mattress, but I later realized this was due to the foam used, which isn’t as dense as the other bed-in-a-box brands I’ve tried. The mattress took about 30-40 minutes to fully expand, however, the edges were unstable during the first night I slept on it. There was mild off-gassing smell that lasted 2 months, indicating this may not be the best mattress for smaller spaces.

Construction

1. 0.75” Quilted Top Cover
The quilted cover is made with cooling-infused nanofibers meant to stay cool to the touch and promote temperature regulation.

2. 1” ecoLuxe® Cooling Gel Foam
A layer of cooling-gel-infused memory foam meant to wick away heat and moisture.

3. 1” Premium Elastex® Foam
This layer is supposed to provide a balanced feel of cushioning and bounce.

4. 9” Pocketed Coils with Reinforced Edge Support

The individually wrapped coils are meant to minimize motion transfer and provide zoned support. The firm border is supposed to reinforce edge support.

Comfort

While I liked the look of the quilted top of the Logan & Cove Choice, it did not necessarily speak “luxury” to me. The top cover is too thin, and I could feel it moving around on the foam as I moved in bed. I sink a few inches deep every time I sit or lay on the mattress, so much so that I could feel the the coils underneath. As there was slow responsiveness from the memory foam, it was somewhat difficult to get in and out of bed. Because of the sinkage, I did not feel significant pressure relief, and even as a side sleeper, the contouring was too much for me.

Firmness

The Logan & Cove Choice scores 3 out of 10 on our firmness scale, skewing softer and could result in a lack of support for many. From the quilted top to the bottom layers and the coils, I felt that this mattress does not maintain its claim of being a medium-plush mattress.

Motion Transfer

Hybrid mattresses usually show more motion transfer than all-foam foam models, but I’ve come across many hybrids that have engineered their mattresses to minimize it. However, this mattress fell short in this area. I felt most movements when sleeping, including tossing, turning, and my partner getting in and out of bed. Further, when conducting the water test, not only did the water show vibration, but the glass did wobble. If you share your bed with someone, it is likely you will feel movements.

Cooling

The quilted top and the thin layer of cooling gel foam were not sufficient to mitigate heat, and my partner and I sweated throughout the time we tested this mattress. I observed that this mattress traps heat more than other hybrids on the market, averaging a surface temperature of 88 °F, compared to  Casper Atlas Hybrid and Endy Hybrid, which had 82 °F and 83 °F, respectively. Thus, I think these alternatives provide far better cooling performance.

Edge Support

The edge support of the Logan & Cove Choice was fairly good, with only 2-3 inches of sinkage when I sat on the perimeter of the mattress. This could be due to the strong foam encasement of the mattress that reinforces edge support. Lying close to the edge, I felt slightly unstable but did not slide or fall off of the bed.

Sinkage and Responsiveness

A common customer complaint – and something I experienced while testing this mattress – was deep sinkage. While lying on the mattress, I sank about 4-5 inches in, which exacerbated my existing back, hip, and shoulder pain rather than offering pressure relief. The sinkage, combined with a lack of bounce,  caused me to feel “stuck” in the mattress and created difficulty getting in and out of bed.

How does it suit different sleeping positions?

Side Sleepers

Some side sleepers who prefer extremely soft mattresses may find this mattress to be to their liking, however, most would not find it supportive enough.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, this mattress lacked the support and firmness I look for, which is typically indicative of a mattress that can keep spine aligned and prevent back pain. I recommend looking into a medium-firm mattress that provides adequate support.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers tend to prefer firmer mattresses that keep their midsection aligned, and this mattress is far from it. I would recommend they steer clear of this mattress.

Combination Sleepers

For combination sleepers who toss and turn and switch sleeping positions throughout the night, this mattress does not provide ample support or motion isolation. A medium-firm or a medium-plush mattress would cater better to their needs.

Lightweight Sleepers

For lightweight sleepers, the Logan & Cove Choice can be supportive enough, considering they prefer a softer mattress.

Heavy People

Heavier individuals should consider better alternatives that provide ample firmness and support for them. Casper Atlas Hybrid, Endy Hybrid, and firmer mattresses like The Endy Firm and Casper Dawn Firm can all be great options for them.

Should You Buy the Logan & Cove Choice?

Logan & Cove Choice Mattress claims to be luxurious, but other than the plush quilted top that appears luxurious, this mattress does not excel in comfort, support, and bounce like any other thoughtfully designed mattress in the market. During our tests, we found this mattress also lacks cooling and causes most sleepers to sink in too deep, making them feel “stuck”. From my personal experience, I would say it is not worth investing in, as this mattress has caused many sleepless nights and back pains for my partner and me.

I would only recommend this mattress for short-term use, such as in vacation homes or for a growing child; however, for $999 CAD for a queen mattress, there are many mattresses that can offer you better comfort, support, firmness, cooling, and durability. I would suggest investing in a mattress like Casper Atlas Hybrid, which not only provides great value for money but is engineered to offer you your best sleep.
