Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

Construction

1. Casper Signature Foam (1.5”): If you’ve ever tested a Casper mattress, you’ll be familiar with this top layer of foam Casper’s known for, which is highly responsive to your every movement, cradling your body no matter what position you sleep in.

2. High Quality Transition Foam (1.5”): This layer is designed to absorb pressure, giving you that “floating on air” feeling. It should lead to less tossing and turning, which will allow you to sleep deeper.

3. Pocket Coils (6”): This 100% steel coil layer is what differentiates a hybrid mattress from an all-foam one, adding in that extra support and bounce. In the Casper Atlas Hybrid, the coils around the edge of the mattress are a bit firmer, giving more edge support.

4. ProSupport Foam (1”): This is that dense layer of foam that gives the mattress the support it needs to maintain its shape through the years, without any saggy spots.

Comfort & Performance

Ultimately what really matters in a mattress is its comfort, so let’s talk about what you can expect from the Casper Atlas Hybrid.

If you’ve experienced memory foam before, either in a mattress or a pillow, you know that comfortable feeling when you gently sink into it, as it contours to your body. That’s what you get from the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress: the Casper Signature Foam that makes up the top layer delivers on that sensation. It feels really responsive, so as you move around, it continues to adapt to your body, both where it needs cushioning and where it needs support. It also relieves pressure points, so you shouldn’t feel any tension where your shoulders or hips meet the mattress.

In terms of support, this one comes in at a medium-firm level: that perfect middle ground that’s comfortable, but still gives your back what it needs. Medium-firm mattresses do a great job of supporting your spine in a neutral alignment all night, keeping it in a healthy position that should feel natural and avoid any aches or pains.

Motion Transfer

This next criteria will be key for anyone who shares a bed: motion transfer. This term refers to how movement on one side of the bed can spread to the other; it’s what might cause you to wake up if your partner rolls around during the night, or wakes up before you.

Generally speaking, hybrid mattresses won’t eliminate motion transfer quite as well as all-foam ones do. This is because the coils naturally add some recoil, which is ideal for bounce but does limit its ability to isolate movement. This is true with the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress, but its middle layer of high-quality transition foam is designed to combat this. Overall, it does a solid job of eliminating motion transfer. If you’re sleeping next to someone who tends to shift around or doesn’t share your sleep schedule, it shouldn’t disturb you too much.

Breathability

You’ll find a hybrid mattress is usually quite breathable to begin with because the coils within allow for some air to flow through the mattress layers. The Casper Atlas Hybrid has taken this one step further with the Casper Signature Foam, which is made to be breathable, further enhancing that airflow. I found these two features complement each other really well, and overall the mattress feels quite comfortably cool when you first lie down on it, and more importantly, it maintains that feeling through the night.

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a hybrid mattress because you’re searching for that combination of comfort and extra support, I’d recommend the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress. Here are my final thoughts:

The Casper Signature Foam nails what you’d look for in memory foam, with excellent responsiveness, while still feeling breathable (as opposed to some memory foam mattresses that retain heat). Meanwhile, the coil layer gives the bonus support that hybrid mattress shoppers are looking for, while also adding edge support so it’s easy to climb in and out of bed. The two complement each other well: the breathability of the foam mixed with the airflow of the coils mean you won’t find yourself overheating in the night on this one, plus the foam’s responsiveness mixed with the coils’ springiness provide a nice bounce.

Those two layers matched with a transition layer to alleviate pressure and a support layer to keep the mattress’s shape stack up to a high-quality mattress, at a more accessible price point than other Casper mattresses. If you want to try it for yourself, Casper gives you 100 nights to do just that, or you can find one of Casper’s store locations across Canada. Additionally, they offer a 10-year warranty for that peace of mind, and free and fast shipping across Canada. Plus Casper itself has a great reputation, with more than 2,000,000 happy customers.
