Logan and Cove Choice Hybrid Mattress Review

The Logan and Cove Choice Hybrid Mattress
Construction
1. Quilted Top Cover
The cover uses cooling nanofibres, which feel cool to the touch. Note it’s not removable, so you can’t ever fully wash it.
2. Cooling Gel Foam
This layer of cooling gel adds to the overall cooling effect on the mattress’s surface.
3. Premium Elastex® Foam
The next layer of foam is intended to provide both bounce and support.
4. Pocketed Coils
The base of the mattress contains pocketed coils with five separate zones to give your body targeted support. It’s worth noting these springs are made of undisclosed materials and are manufactured overseas, so may not represent the quality and durability you would hope to find in a hybrid mattress.
Comfort & Performance
Let’s take a closer look to see how this mattress stacks up to other hybrid options. It definitely has some differences that may surprise you.
The Logan & Cove Choice Hybrid Mattress aims for a medium-firm level of supportiveness, with a firmness rating of 6/10, and in my own testing, I’ve found this to be accurate. Hybrid mattresses tend to offer a bit more support thanks to their embedded coils, so it’s a bit unusual this one is only a 6/10 (others come in at a 6.5 or 7), and some may find it softer than what they’re looking for in a hybrid.
Hybrids also typically provide great edge support, although I found this feature was missing from the Logan & Cove one, which has a softer edge to it. Sleepers have also reported they can feel the springs in this mattress increasingly over time, suggesting its support is deteriorating with use.
Bounce:
Hybrid mattresses tend to have great bounce thanks to their coils, and that proves true here. I’d classify the level of bounce as being fairly average for a hybrid, with the innersprings providing solid recoil.
Motion Transfer
Hybrid mattresses don’t usually isolate motion as well as all-foam mattresses due to the bouncy nature of the coils, and this one is no exception. The Logan & Cove Choice Hybrid Mattress received only a 7/10 score on motion isolation from third-party engineers. If you share your bed with a partner or a pet, you may wake up during the night if they shift around in their sleep or get up for a midnight snack.
Breathability
The mattress has some features that were designed for breathability. First, its cover has a hollow fibre fill, which should help air circulate through, so the mattress surface isn’t holding onto your body heat when you lie down on it. Next, it has a cooling gel just beneath the surface, which is supposed to wick away sweat and warmth. Hybrid mattresses also usually have good breathability because the coils allow for air to flow through the mattress, so that’s a factor here too. Altogether, I would say this mattress delivers on creating a temperate sleeping environment.
Conclusion
Overall, this mattress provides an adequately comfortable sleep surface, blending the comfort of an all-foam mattress with the support of an innerspring mattress in its hybrid structure. Its cooling gel lends a breathable surface to avoid overheating during the night. Meanwhile, its individually wrapped pocket coils offer zoned support.
The downside to the coils is they don’t eliminate motion transfer, and they lack edge support. This will be a concern for those who share a bed, needing a larger usable sleep surface that isn’t impacted by a partner’s movements in the night. It might also bother those who like to sit on the edge of their bed, or use it to help themselves get up in the morning.
While the mattress is made in Canada, there isn’t much information available on where the materials are sourced, and some components are made overseas. At 14” thick, you may also want to consider your bedroom space when shopping for this mattress, as its bulky appearance may dominate smaller rooms.
Logan & Cove is a niche mattress brand, with just 50,000 Canadians sleeping on a Logan & Cove mattress. It offers a 15-year warranty and a 365-night trial, although returns aren’t permitted during the first 21 nights. It’s also worth noting that mattresses must be wrapped in plastic in order to be returned, so you’ll need to hang onto the plastic it comes in, or else source a new plastic cover prior to processing the return.
