Puffy Mattress Review - Cloud
Product Research: Our Process
Puffy Cloud Mattress: Soft Like A Cloud, But Sinks Deep.
Our Verdict
In our tests, we observed a strong off-gassing smell that lasted 51 days - a concerning length of time, especially considering you only receive a 101-night trial. My suggestion is to invest in a better alternative, such as The Casper or The Endy Plush, which costs less but offers far better cooling, comfort, and support.

Unboxing and First Impressions
Puffy Cloud arrived at my doorstep in a compact box. The mattress did not feel too heavy, which was surprising as they make it look luxurious on their website. My biggest regret was unwrapping it in my tiny bedroom, as the off-gassing was stronger than anything I’ve experienced before, immediately filling up my living space with an unpleasant odour. Not only did this compromise the quality of air, but it gave me and my husband strong headaches and occasional coughing. The first impression of the mattress was far from amazing.
Construction
1. Airgocell® Foam
This foam layer is supposed to absorb sweat into the mattress so you don’t overheat during the night.
2. HALO® Memory foam
This memory foam layer should isolate motion and balance pressure points to support deep, uninterrupted sleep.
3. High Resiliency Xtra Foam
The base layer is meant to offer foundational support for the mattress.
Comfort
Puffy Cloud sounds like heaven, but the comfort of this mattress left me underwhelmed. It is difficult to maintain a neutral spine as the mattress sinks deep, and there is too little support for mid to heavy-weight range sleepers. I did not feel any exceptional pressure relief, and due to the over-contouring, I woke up with back pains most mornings.
Firmness
Puffy Cloud scored 3 out of 10 on our firmness scale, leaning toward a softer mattress. This level of firmness is unable to provide ample support for back and stomach sleepers, as well as heavier individuals. Even as a side sleeper, I felt my body being over-contoured to the point that it caused discomfort for me, so I would say this mattress is only suitable for those who prefer an extremely soft mattress.
Motion Transfer
Puffy did not seem to offer enough motion isolation for undisturbed sleep, and as a light sleeper who can feel almost any movement around me, this was frustrating for me. I woke up several times at night when my partner tossed and turned, and I felt exhausted by morning. As shown in our experiment, dropping an item onto the surface of the Puffy Cloud mattress results in a high level of vibration across the mattress. If you share your bed with someone, I recommend you look into mattresses with better motion isolation than the Puffy Cloud.
Cooling
Puffy Cloud did a fairly good job at cooling. The cover was cool to the touch and stayed breathable at night, and the foam did not trap heat as some other memory foams like Juno and Emma did. My husband is a hot sleeper, and he was able to sleep restfully on this mattress. However, the surface temperature of this mattress took a long time to fully dissipate after body heat tests, so I am hesitant to recommend the cooling capabilities for summer months or for spaces without air conditioning.
Edge Support
Puffy Cloud did not disappoint at first in edge support, but my biggest concern was how fast the support around the perimeter kept diminishing. Initially, when I tested the edge support, the mattress held well while sitting or lying down on it, but a month later, I felt myself slipping off. This is probably an indication that this mattress is not as durable as other mattresses like The Casper and The Endy.
Sinkage and Responsiveness
The sinkage on this mattress is possibly the biggest reason to steer clear of this mattress. Unless you’re lightweight or a side sleeper who prefers softer mattresses, I believe the deep sinking can cause discomfort for anyone. I noticed 6-7 inches deep sinking while lying on the mattress, and it kept getting worse to the point where there were imprints of where I slept that never fully recovered. Adding to that, the responsiveness of the mattress could be improved, as it took a while to recover from any movements.
How does it suit different sleeping positions?
Side Sleepers
Some side sleepers who prefer softer mattresses will like the cloud-like softness of Puffy, but they may not receive ample pressure relief and support from this mattress.
Back Sleepers
Puffy Cloud does not offer enough support to keep the spine aligned and back supported, therefore, I would not recommend this mattress to back sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers should choose a firmer mattress that offers more support and keeps their midsection aligned to prevent pain and pressure. The Casper and The Endy are both better alternatives for them.
Combination Sleepers
Combination sleepers can feel disruptions to their sleep by extreme motion transfer on this mattress, and they would prefer a more responsive mattress that can adapt and recover from their movements faster.
Lightweight Sleepers
Lightweight people can feel comfortable on this softer mattress as they do not sink deep into the mattress or require as much support as other sleepers.
Heavy People
Heavier individuals should choose a firmer mattress with more support and durability and steer clear of mattresses that could sag and sink deep. I recommend looking into options such as The Endy Firm, and Casper Dawn Extra Firm.
Should You Buy the Puffy Cloud Mattress?
Puffy Cloud performed decently in cooling and edge support, but considering the lack of firmness, deep sinkage, diminishing support, and poor performance in motion isolation, there are many alternatives on the market for a fraction of the price you pay for this mattress. After about one month’s use, I felt like this mattress had significantly sagged in many areas. The off-gassing took almost two months to dissipate completely, which could cause respiratory issues for some.
Although Puffy Cloud advertises a lifetime warranty, you can only do up to two replacements for your purchase, making the warranty as obsolete as it can be. For more than 500 bucks less, you can invest in a mattress like The Casper or The Endy Plush, which will last you a long time and offer great support, comfort, motion isolation, and durability.
