Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Casper Dawn mattress arrives at your doorstep vacuum-compressed and protected by a plastic wrap, tucked in a compact box like other bed-in-a-box models on the market. The mattress expanded to its full form in a few minutes, presenting a cozy and welcoming mattress. The mattress will be ready to sleep on right away, but we recommend letting it expand for 48 hours for ideal comfort.

1. Cozy Knit Removable Cover
This extra stretchy cover adapts to your body to offer maximum comfort and an optimal sleeping surface.

2. 1.5” Casper Signature Foam
Enhances the responsiveness of the mattress, offering a balanced feel of bounce and support.

3. 1.5” High-quality Transition Foam
Adds extra comfort and allows the two top and bottom layers of the mattress to seamlessly work together.

4. 6” ProSupport Foam

Reinforces the support, stability and structure of the mattress to prevent sagging and sinking over time.

Comfort

Casper Dawn offers cushiony comfort with its full memory foam construction, giving a contouring feel to your body. The contouring qualities may be helpful to those with joint pain or arthritis. Relieving pressure points while alleviating pain and discomfort, this mattress sets the stage for revitalizing sleep night after night. The foundational foam provides robust support for a range of sleeping positions, including back, stomach and combination sleepers.

Firmness

Mattress firmness is key to discovering the perfect mattress for your sleep. Casper Dawn scores 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale as a medium-firm mattress with a softer sleeping surface that does not compromise support. Medium-firm mattresses are known for their versatility, suiting a wide range of sleeping positions. Casper Dawn is ideal if you love this firmness but desire a bit of plushness for added comfort and coziness. For a firmer feel, consider Casper Dawn Extra Firm

Motion Transfer

High motion transfer can be a deal breaker for those who share their bed with someone. One of the benefits of a pure memory foam mattress is its ability to isolate motion and the Casper Dawn excels in this category, allowing the opportunity for deeper, less interrupted sleep. You can opt for the Casper Dawn with peace of mind even if your partner, pet, or kid tosses and turns all the time.

Cooling

While memory foams are known for trapping heat, I was pleasantly surprised with how Casper Dawn felt breathable. You will not experience any discomfort on this mattress if you don’t have issues with temperature regulation. However, for hot sleepers who suffer from night sweats, I recommend investing in Casper’s cooling mattress featuring their innovative signature Snow Technology™ such as Casper Snow or Casper Wave Hybrid Snow.

Edge Support

The Casper ProSupport Foam enhances the overall support of the mattress including along the edge of the mattress in order to prevent sinking and sagging. Additionally, the sturdy edge support allows individuals to sit or lie down and experience no slipping or falling off, indicating that this mattress offers great durability.

Sinkage and Responsiveness

As a fully memory foam mattress, it is normal to experience some sinkage in this mattress, but the benefit of memory foam is that it molds to your unique contours and distributes your weight equally. The high responsiveness and low bounce minimize this effect and make the mattress remarkably comfortable. For heavier individuals looking for extra firmness and lesser sinkage, we recommend investing in Casper’s hybrid counterparts: Casper Original Hybrid, and Casper Atlas Hybrid

How does it suit different sleeping positions?

Side Sleepers

Casper Dawn is a side sleeper’s dream come true. With unmatched cushioning and pressure relief for their neck, shoulders and hips, this mattress truly caters to brighter mornings for side sleepers. While enjoying optimal spine alignment and support that lasts, they will fall in love with Casper Dawn every day.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, we recommend a medium-firm mattress, and Casper Dawn is exactly that, with extra coziness from its softer sleeping surface. This mattress provides excellent support and keeps back sleepers’ spines aligned while alleviating pain and pressure for a restful night’s sleep. Note that Casper Dawn also comes in an extra firm version for back sleepers or heavy-set back sleepers who seek a firmer sleeping surface.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers will enjoy the cradling effect of the mattress which does not compromise hip alignment. However, for heavier stomach sleepers, this mattress may feel slightly less firm than they prefer, so we recommend Casper Dawn Extra Firm for no added cost, or The Casper Mattress for a true medium-firm feel.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers switch between side, back, and stomach sleeping, making Casper Dawn’s contouring feel ideal for them. The mattress’ medium-firm feel also suits their sleeping needs, ensuring spine alignment and pressure relief no matter what position you sleep in.

Lightweight Sleepers

Lightweight sleepers will have no trouble drifting into deep slumber on Casper Dawn. With cushy comforts and a supportive feel along with the medium-firm feel that is spot on for lightweight sleepers, it is safe to say they will thoroughly enjoy sleeping on this mattress. Meanwhile, the deep pressure point relief will ensure a restful sleep every night.

Heavy People

Heavier individuals will benefit from opting for the Casper Dawn Extra Firm version for added support and firmness unless they prefer a softer sleeping surface.

Should You Buy the Casper Dawn?

If you’re a side, back, or combination sleeper and seek a budget-friendly medium-firm mattress, Casper Dawn performs outstandingly and provides incredible value for money with its comfort, support, and superior motion isolation. Manufactured with premium memory foam, this mattress resists sagging or sinking over time, ensuring you sweet slumber for years to come.

Compared to Casper Dawn’s competitors like Douglas Alpine, Puffy Cloud, Emma Original II and The Nectar mattress, Casper Dawn stands out with its unparalleled comfort, long-lasting support, and minimal motion transfer, for a similar price range. Whether you choose the medium-firm or the extra-firm, Casper Dawn provides exceptional value and peace of mind.

What are the benefits of sleeping on a memory foam mattress?
A lot of my clients are drawn to memory foam mattresses for its cushiony, cloud-like feel. If you’re a side sleeper, move positions, or have sore joints, the degree of sinkage and contouring of the body can help alleviate any pressure points and support your hips, shoulders and neck while helping to maintain your natural spinal curvature. Another huge benefit of memory foam is its quietness and ability to isolate motion - so if you sleep with a restless bed partner, child or pet, you won’t feel the transfer of movement or any squeaks from the bed. And if you’re prone to allergies and/or have respiratory issues, memory foam is a great option as it's naturally hypoallergenic and dustmite-resistant.
When might a memory foam mattress NOT be the right choice for me?
Not everyone loves that feeling of sinking in so memory foam may not be the right mattress for you. While there are cooling options in memory foam, pure foam has a tendency to retain more heat due to the density of the material and the cradling of your body. So hot sleepers beware! If you live in a hot climate with limited A/C or are at risk for liquid spills in bed, you may want to consider other options because memory foam can be damaged by water or humidity. Finally, memory foam mattresses tend to be quite heavy so if you’re on your own and don’t have help to move it, you may want to consider a lighter option.
Apart from a comfortable and supportive mattress, how else can I optimize my sleep environment?
Try to make your bedroom like a cave - it should be cool, dark, quiet, tidy and well-ventilated. The optimal temperature for sleep is between 15-20 degrees celsius. Keep your room dark and avoid using stimulating electronics, such as TVs, phones and tablets right before bed and/or if you wake in the night. Minimize external noise disruptions, so turn off TVs, music or podcasts before bed or set a timer for them to shut off closely after you fall asleep. Eye shades or foam or silicone earplugs can be helpful. Keep your room tidy and vacuum or dust on a regular basis to remove any allergens from the space.
