Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

Purchasing and Returns

You can either visit a Casper store for in-store purchases or order Casper Snow online at casper.ca. Casper offers free delivery across Canada with some exceptions. If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the mattress within the 100-night trial period at no cost.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Casper Snow arrives at your doorstep similar to a traditional bed-in-a-box, wrapped in plastic and vacuum compressed. We recommend unboxing the mattress in a spacious area and allowing the mattress to expand to its full form before use. The mattress looked plush and cozy at a glance and was ready to use in a few minutes. However, Casper recommends letting it expand for 48 hours for ideal comfort.

Comfort

Casper’s groundbreaking sleep technology plays a major role in providing the most soothing, luxurious feel from this mattress. From the cool, soft cover to the body-cradling memory foams and individually pocketed springs that boost support, this mattress is dedicated to making your sleep experience more enjoyable. The zoned support system around the midsection is especially helpful for side sleepers or sleepers with back pain who are looking for that cushiony feel but don’t want to sink in too much.  Greater lumbar support reinforces optimal spinal alignment, allowing you to enjoy pressure-relieving sleep and waking up rejuvenated.

Firmness

Mattress firmness is always a pivotal factor, and Casper Snow promises consistent comfort for many with its medium-plush feel. It strikes the perfect balance between comfort and support with an extra cozy feel. There is a tiny bit of bounce for a cushiony feel while the mattress maintains even weight distribution.

Medium-plush suits a range of sleepers, with lighter sleepers or side sleepers benefitting the most from this level of firmness.  Too much pressure on the shoulders and hips can lead to recurring nighttime awakenings and get in the way of restful sleep, but the combination of foam and coils on this mattress provides optimal pressure relief.

Motion Transfer

Motion isolation can be a game-changer for those who share their bed with a partner, pet, or child. It can be frustrating to have your deep slumber disturbed by someone’s movements, and this is one reason to consider a mattress with better motion isolation. Casper Snow does a stellar job at minimizing motion across the bed with its premium construction and flex coils dedicated to it.

Cooling

Research suggests that keeping cool at night generally promotes better sleep quality by facilitating deeper, more restful sleep and aiding in body temperature regulation. If sleeping hot was a constant pain, you’ll find Casper Snow to be your ultimate solution. With their signature Snow Technology™ that caters to supreme cooling to help you sleep a few degrees cooler even on the hottest nights, you will have no trouble falling asleep and falling in love with the Casper Snow! In addition to their cooling tech, they feature HeatDelete™ bands, cooling Phase Change Materials, and their renowned AirScape® technology that increases the airflow and breathability of the mattress. This power combo beats any heat and sweat to give you the ultimate chill nights.

Edge Support

The firm foam around the Casper Snow ensures great support on the edges, offering stability sitting down or lying with no slipping or falling off. It also makes getting in and out of bed easier, while maintaining the structural integrity of the mattress. The edge support holds great with time, and there is no sagging over time, a true testament to the premium construction.

Sinkage and Responsiveness

Being a medium-plush mattress, the slight sinkage of this mattress feels completely normal for a range of sleepers. There is a good response time that takes away the feeling of being “stuck” in the mattress. The bounce level is spot-on to give a balanced and comfortable feel of a luxurious mattress while supporting the spine in a neutral position and preventing it from sagging or arching unnaturally. Heavier individuals who tend to feel more sinkage and/or medium to heavier stomach sleepers who need more support around the midsection can benefit from Casper Dawn Extra Firm.

How does it suit different sleeping positions?

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers will come to love the Zoned Support™offered by this mattress, and the right amount of body contouring while keeping their spines aligned. The exceptional pressure relief alleviates shoulder, neck, and hip pains while the flex coils and foundational foam provide extra support night after night.

Back Sleepers

If you’re a lighter back sleeper, Casper Snow will feel like drifting into heaven. The incredible support and pressure relief ensure you wake up pain-free and refreshed every morning. Casper Snow’s amazing cooling and breathability techniques will provide added comfort for brighter mornings while alleviating stubborn back pains and giving you optimal spinal alignment.

Stomach Sleepers

Casper Snow caters to a blissful sleep for lighter to average weighted stomach sleepers as well, by keeping their hips aligned without deeper sinking that can cause discomfort. It does a stellar job of relieving pressure and hugging the curvature of your body while you sleep on your stomach. However, heavier stomach sleepers who prefer more firmness from their mattress can consider options such as the Casper Dawn Extra Firm.

Combination Sleepers

If you toss and turn into a different sleeping position from time to time, you will appreciate the comfort, responsiveness and pressure relief offered by the Casper Snow. Meanwhile, its motion isolation properties will keep the disturbances to a minimum for whoever you share your bed with.

Lightweight Sleepers

Lightweight sleepers will love the medium-firm feel and the ultimate pressure relief provided by Casper Snow. They can also benefit from the zoned support and the mattress’s incredible breathability that makes you snooze better.

Heavy People

Casper Snow offers superior, targeted support for heavier individuals who prefer a plush feel from their mattress instead of a firmer feel. While the medium-firmness of this mattress provides a balanced feel, some heavier individuals who prefer more firmness can consider Casper Dawn Extra Firm instead.

Should You Buy the Casper Snow?

Casper Snow can be a great investment in your best sleep for years to come. With phenomenal cooling techniques to cater to a sweat-free sleep even for the hottest seasons, and stellar zoned support that takes away stubborn body pains, this mattress is made to unwind, recharge, and repeat. This mattress caters to all sleeping positions, providing exceptional comfort and spinal alignment.

When compared with competitors like Octave Mirage Mattress, Puffy Royal, and Nectar Premier Copper, Casper Snow stands out with supreme cooling and breathability, and a true medium-plush feel. Casper Snow is an ideal choice for particularly hot sleepers but all other sleepers seeking luxe, pain-free sleep in a long-lasting mattress.

Is it better to sleep in a warmer or cooler environment?
While people vary in their preferences for how warm or cool they want to feel at night, in general, I recommend that the optimal bedroom temperature for sleep is between about 60-68 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5-20 degrees Celsius). The reason for sleeping in a cool vs warm climate is because in order to promote deeper and more restorative sleep, our internal body temperature needs to drop by 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit (or 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius). The release of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates sleep and aids in the sleep process, is also linked to this temperature drop, promoting further sleepiness and quality sleep.
How else can I cool my body and bedroom down before sleep?
In so many ways! Apart from turning up the AC, if there’s a breeze outside and/or it’s a cooler night, you can open a bedroom window. Fans are also a great low-cost alternative. Taking a hot bath or shower 1-2 hours before bed helps open up blood vessels, bringing a large blood flow to the surface of the body, especially in the hands and feet, resulting in a cooling of the core. Wearing socks to bed can promote a similar effect. Lastly, freeze some water bottles and place them in some tube socks - shortly before bedtime, toss them under the covers and by the time you go to sleep, your bed will have that extra chill to promote healthy sleep.
How do I know if a medium plush mattress is right for me?
I always tell my clients that shopping for a mattress is very much a personal experience - there’s no one-size fits all approach. That said, as a starting point, you may want to consider two key factors: sleep position and body weight. Side sleepers may benefit from medium to medium firm mattresses that relieve pressure at the shoulder and hips, while contouring their body. For people between 130-230 lbs, medium to medium-firm mattresses provide a balance of support and pressure relief, helping to maintain spinal alignment while cradling the body’s curves. A back sleeper who weighs less than 130 lbs may also benefit from medium firm plushness.
