Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

Construction

1. Antimicrobial cover
Traditional mattresses are the perfect breeding ground for yeast, mould, mites and bacteria – the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress features premium quality, built-in antimicrobial cover to prevent bacteria growth, ensuring hygiene and freshness for years to come and minimizing allergies or asthma that may compromise sleep quality.

2. 1” Luxury Quilted Layer

With cooling gem foam and hollow fibre, this layer increases breathability and keeps the sleeping surface cool to the touch.

3. 2” Gel Memory Foam

Dense memory foam is infused with cooling gel for climate regulation and extra plushness. This feature helps you keep a consistent and comfortable temperature throughout the night. It also provides profound pressure point relief to alleviate pain from key areas of your body.

4. Zoned Lumbar Support
This firmer middle zone is expertly designed to support spinal alignment, promoting an enhanced feeling of relaxation and overall well-being.

5. 8” Pocket Coil Base
This layer of 1200 double-tempered pocketed spring coils limits motion transfer and provides a cushiony, yet firm and stable sleeping experience.

6. Firm Edge Support
Provides anti-sag, long-lasting edge support for no sinking, slipping, or falling off the bed. Prevents flattening around the edge of the mattress to hold its structure.

Comfort

Silk & Snow Hybrid offers the pinnacle of comfort for you with its robust pressure relief and unparalleled support. This mattress is constructed to provide a slight body contouring for optimal comfort while keeping your spine aligned. The comfort layers of this mattress are comprised of high-quality memory foam, with additional zoned lumbar support foam within the transition layers of the mattress. The plush version contains an additional 2” of transitional foam for enhanced comfort suited for those who seek a cloud-like feel. Overall, your body will feel deeply restored and pain-free sleeping on this heavenly mattress.

Firmness

With spot-on medium-firmness suitable for many sleeping positions, the Silk & Snow Hybrid ticks all the boxes if you’re buying a mattress with a bed partner. It strikes the ultimate balance of support and cushioning, being soft enough to relieve pressure, and supportive enough to keep your spine, torso and hips aligned. It is a truly versatile mattress that prevents excessive sinking, and provides a stable, even surface for sound sleep. Alternatively, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Plush offers a medium-soft feel that caters more to those who love deeper contouring from their mattress.

Motion Transfer

If you share your bed, experiencing the movement of your partner, pet, or kid during your sleep can be frustrating. This is why selecting a mattress with minimal motion transfer is important. The Silk & Snow Hybrid is one of the best mattresses on the market in motion isolation, resulting in uninterrupted dreams. Up to 1200 individual pocket coils take the lead in minimizing motion transfer across the mattress while providing stability, in both the medium-firm and plush versions of this mattress. In-house tests confirm that this mattress can deeply absorb motion, ensuring uninterrupted sleep even when someone gets in and out of bed.

Cooling

Silk & Snow Hybrid is crafted thoughtfully to enable maximum breathability and cooling. Their proprietary cooling fabrics effectively draw heat and moisture away from the body, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. Since medium-firm mattresses do not hug the body as closely as softer models, they often do not trap as much heat. With a cool-to-the-touch, gel-infused quilted top that feels soothing, your body will be in the optimal condition for sleep and you can say goodbye to night sweats. The breakthrough cooling properties remain the same in the plush version as well.

Edge Support

Thanks to the innovative construction of the Silk & Snow Hybrid which features anti-sag support, the edges of the mattress are safe to sit or lie down on, with no discomfort, or slipping or falling off. Additionally, the stable structure makes getting in and out of bed easier, while the responsive design adapts to movements and recovers faster.

Sinkage and Responsiveness

While there is no deep sinkage on the Silk & Snow Hybrid, the bounce level is praiseworthy and offers ease of movement. Combined with the high responsiveness of this mattress, it offers optimal comfort and a luxurious feel for a fraction of the price of a luxury mattress. With the plush version, medium sinkage can be experienced, as it caters more to side and combo sleepers who prefer more body contouring.

How does it suit different sleeping positions?

Side Sleepers

While this mattress is made thoughtfully to suit all sleeping positions, lightweight and medium-weight side sleepers may prefer the Silk & Snow Hybrid Plush as it offers a more huggable feel. However, if you’re a heavier side sleeper, you may still find this mattress to provide the right amount of cushioning and pressure relief for you.

Back Sleepers

With a firmness that hits the Goldilocks zone, this mattress is a back sleeper’s dream come true, although some lighter-weight back sleepers may prefer the Silk & Snow Hybrid Plush. You will experience remarkable pressure relief, while the zoned lumbar support ensures a neutral spine and a stable feeling all night long. As back sleepers are more prone to overheating, this mattress effectively wicks away heat and moisture for a soothing sleep.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers tremendously benefit from a firmer mattress that will keep their midsection aligned, to prevent discomfort by over-arching. This mattress provides incredible support for their hips and abdomen while offering ample cushioning for their chest and shoulders, making it a great investment for for light weight and medium weighted stomach sleepers.

Combination Sleepers

A medium-firm mattress is the best choice for a combination sleeper, but Silk & Snow Hybrid adds a few more sweeteners. Its supreme motion isolation offers uninterrupted, deep slumber, while its high responsiveness ensures smooth transitions to any sleeping position. Combination sleepers can also enjoy incredible pressure relief and support in the shoulder, back and hip area, no matter which position they fall asleep in.

Lightweight Sleepers

Lightweight sleepers often admire a balanced and supportive feel from their mattress. Silk & Snow Hybrid is a great mattress with ample support and pressure relief for them while ensuring spinal alignment. That being said, for those who prefer a softer mattress that can contour closer to their body, the plush version can be a better alternative.

Heavy People

Heavier individuals benefit from a medium-firm to firm mattress that provides adequate support while preventing excessive sinkage. This mattress does a stellar job with its zoned support and spot-on bounce, while the high-density foams withstand more weight without sagging over time and offer greater comfort. In addition, the mattress thickness and phenomenal edge support ensure heavier individuals feel stable. Those over 230 lbs may want to consider a firmer mattress like Silk & Snow Organic Firm especially if they are stomach sleepers.

Should You Buy Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress?

Silk & Snow Hybrid offers unbeatable value for money with incredible support, exceptional pressure relief, minimal motion transfer, supreme cooling, and long-lasting structure. The medium-firm and plush versions ensure this mattress is made for all, no matter your sleeping position or concern. It is no wonder that this mattress has won many accolades and is loved by many.

Compared to similar range mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice Hybrid, Emma Hybrid Comfort, and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid, this mattress offers significantly more benefits and value for money, making it the clear winner and the perfect choice for those who seek a budget-friendly mattress that does it all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Silk and Snow made in Canada?
Yes, Silk & Snow is a Canadian mattress brand manufactured in Canada with materials sourced from Toronto-based, family-owned businesses.
Can I sleep on my Silk and Snow mattress right away?
Yes, the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress expands to its full form in minutes, and is ready to sleep right away.
How thick is a Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress?
Silk & Snow Hybrid medium-firm is 12 inches thick, while the plush counterpart is 14 inches thick.
Does Silk and Snow have fibreglass?
No, Silk and Snow mattresses are free of fibreglass and harmful materials, and are CertiPUR-US certified.
Do Silk and Snow mattresses need a box spring?
No. Silk & Snow mattresses support flat platform beds, adjustable beds, beds with a slatted base, box springs, or the floor. The brand offers a range of bedframes to choose from, for a perfect match.
How can allergens in my bed and bedroom disrupt my sleep?
Mattresses can be the perfect breeding ground for yeast, mildew, dust mites, bacteria, and mould, especially if your mattress is past its best shelf life. Mould can also grow on other surfaces in your bedroom, including carpet, drywall, insulation, and wood. If you have any fur babies at home, pet dander is another allergic culprit. In rarer circumstances, some people may be allergic to the material of their mattress itself if it is made from latex. These allergens have the potential to trigger sneezing, runny noses, itchiness, rashes and/or hives, watery eyes, scratchy throat, coughing, sinus pressure, breathing issues and asthma, all which can disrupt the quality of your sleep.
How can I minimize allergens in my bedroom to promote optimal sleep?
Invest in a hypoallergenic mattress and use an allergen-proof mattress protector. Sheets and pillowcases should be washed in hot water once a week. Try and reduce the number of dust-collecting items in your bedroom. Vacuum about once a week (ideally with a HEPA filter) and pay close to attention to any carpeted or upholstered areas, such as furniture or heavy curtains. And don’t forget to vacuum your mattress too! You may also want to consider keeping your pets outside the bedroom and/or your bed (sorry, I know this is a tough one!).
What are the risks of sleeping on your stomach?
Sleeping on your stomach can cause your midsection to sink, causing muscle tension and strain on your spine, hips and lower back. Furthermore, because you may twist your neck sharply sideways throughout the night, pain can ensue. Stomach sleeping can also contribute to issues that may affect your breathing. The natural downward position of sleeping on your stomach places more weight on the ribcage and diaphragm, resulting in restricted expansion of the chest wall during breathing. It’s important to talk to your doctor about stomach sleeping if you snore or have sleep apnea. If you are a stomach sleeper, you’ll want a mattress on the firmer side that supports your weight while alleviating any pressure points.
How can I maximize my sleep and comfort level as a back sleeper?
Back sleepers have the positional advantage of natural spine alignment when lying down. However, sinking hips, disordered breathing or digestive issues may disrupt your nights in this position. To maximize your sleep, health and comfort, back sleepers may want to place a small pillow beneath their knees to reduce any arching of the back and help neutralize the spine. They may also want to use a medium-loft pillow (memory foam or latex preferred) or prop themselves up with a pillow wedge to elevate the upper upper body. Sleepers who suffer from snoring, congestion, sleep apnea, acid reflux or GERD may benefit from this extra elevation.
Is it better to sleep in a warmer or cooler environment?
While people vary in their preferences for how warm or cool they want to feel at night, in general, I recommend that the optimal bedroom temperature for sleep is between about 60-68 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5-20 degrees Celsius). The reason for sleeping in a cool vs warm climate is because in order to promote deeper and more restorative sleep, our internal body temperature needs to drop by 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit (or 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius). Your body temperature naturally drops as the night goes on so a cool room helps this transition. The release of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates sleep and aids in the sleep process, is also linked to this temperature drop, promoting further sleepiness and quality sleep.
