Which Mattress Should You Buy?

After lengthy testing, our analysis led us to recommend the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress. This mattress scored better across our testing pillars of comfort, performance, breathability and motion transfer. All types of sleepers ranked this model highly in various categories, supporting the stance that Silk & Snow’s Hybrid offers unparalleled comfort and support for all sleeping positions. Hot sleepers also commended this contender for it’s breathability, dissipating body heat through it’s GlacialAirTM technology to create a cool sleeping environments.

The Logan and Cove mattress is slightly more expensive than Silk & Snow’s Hybrid model, however we did not find the additional cost to be justified in the materials or performance of the mattress. The plush top was did not prove to be durable, especially for heavier sleepers, and can be expected to wear down over time. It also disappointed hot sleepers with a lack of airflow, meaning they slept warmer on the Logan and Cove than they did using the same sheets on the Silk & Snow. Silk & Snow’s Hybrid did not require any “break-in” period for use, and the off-gassing was minimal, whereas Logan and Cove’s mattress formed a lump in the middle of the mattress - a common occurrence that their FAQ lists as improper “break-in” of the mattress due to sleeping in the same spot night after night.

Taking into account all the testing results, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress takes the cake for the higher quality and stronger overall results in this direct comparison.

Construction

SILK & SNOW HYBRID

1. Antimicrobial cover
Traditional mattresses are the perfect breeding ground for yeast, mould, mites and bacteria – the S&S Hybrid Mattress features a premium quality, built-in antimicrobial cover to prevent bacteria growth, ensuring the hygiene of you and your mattress for years to come.

2. Quilted Foam Layer
A layer of hand-stitched quilted memory foam provides a comfy sleep surface.

3. Cool Pressure Relief
2” layer of cooling-gel infused high-density memory foam provides deep pressure point relief and a cool sleep environment.

4. Zoned Lumbar Support
The firmer middle zone is expertly designed to support spinal alignment, promoting an enhanced feeling of relaxation and overall well-being.

5. 8” Pocket Coil Base
Up to 1200 8” pocket coils made of 100% Canadian Steel limit motion transfer and promote proper spinal alignment. We optimize the number of coils to best support the body, removing the need for ineffective micro coils.

6. Firm Edge Support
Extra firm perimeter prevents flattening when sitting on the edge, and reinforces the structure – a bonus for those who sit on the edge of their bed.

LOGAN & COVE

1. Quilted Cover
Plush top cover with a breathable hollow fibre fill contributing to a cool-to-touch top surface.

2. ecoLuxe Gel Foam Layer
The cooling gel layer provides cushioning for shoulders, hips, and knees.

3. Elastex Foam
This 1.5” foam piece brings a bunch of bounce while aiming to provide additional support and cushioning.

4. Wrapped Coils
9” coils across five zones, calibrated to support key areas of the body.

Silk & Snow and Logan and Cove both offer Hybrid mattresses that boast two layers of foam and zoned coils. However, Silk & Snow’s model has 6 key construction components that create a cohesive, supportive sleep, whereas Logan and Cove only features 4. Our testing found that the materials in Logan and Cove are less durable against long-term compression and abrasion, meaning they will break down faster over time. This raises red flags, as a mattress is meant to be a long-term investment.

Logan and Cove and Silk & Snow rank themselves equal on the firmness scale, however, through our testing, we found the Logan and Cove mattress was noticeably softer than its Silk & Snow counterpart. Testers reported a sinking sensation in the first few seconds of lying on the mattress, and some even reported feeling the coil layer that is below. Silk & Snow’s mattress has a true medium-firm feel, thanks to the additional layers and zoned lumbar support. Studies have shown that a truly medium-firm mattress improves sleep quality and reduces back pain. A soft mattress can cause spinal misalignment, and lead to back pain or postural issues over time.

Comfort & Performance

Author’s Pick
Silk & Snow Hybrid
If you’re looking for a comfortable mattress, look no further than Silk & Snow’s Hybrid model. Deserving of it’s many accolades, the beloved signature mattress offers a perfect level of support through body contouring foam layers and a strong, supportive steel coil base. The innovative plush quilted top foam layer relieves pressure points, while the zoned coil design will provide additional comfort and support in key lumbar areas.
Shop Silk & Snow Hybrid
Logan and Cove Hybrid
In comparison, the Logan and Cove Choice mattress has a softer surface, resulting in less spinal support which may lead to increased back pain. Despite a higher price point, the materials used are not as durable and will likely deteriorate over time. While the Logan and Cove mattress provides comfort, many sleepers find it doesn’t fit their desired firmness.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer refers to how much motion from one side of the mattress will be felt by the person sleeping on the other side. While Hybrid mattresses will always have some motion transfer due to the responsive coils, between the two Hybrid options, Silk & Snow is better than Logan and Cove. So, if sleepers share a bed with a partner or a pet, they will experience less disruption on the Silk & Snow bed.
Silk & Snow
We found the Silk & Snow Hybrid had strong results for motion isolation. It’s quilted foam top layer effectively absorbed any movement, preventing it from travelling across the mattress. Little movement can be felt, so light sleepers can sleep soundly.
Shop Silk & Snow
Logan and Cove
Our testing found the Logan and Cove Choice mattress had some motion transfer elimination, but did not achieve the same results as Silk & Snow. Sleepers sharing their space with a partner or a pet may feel some motion, leading to potential disruptions throughout the night.

Breathability

For those who sleep hot, breathability is an important element in selecting the perfect mattress. Mattresses should be designed to quickly release one’s body heat so the sleeper can get their beauty rest without any night sweats. Based on a standard airflow test, we found that Silk & Snow’s Hybrid Mattress had significantly more airflow than the Logan and Cove option, attributed to the brand’s use of non-toxic fabrics, open-cell memory foam, and an antimicrobial external cover. Specifically, when paired with the high-quality quilted foam infused with cooling gel, the surface of the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress optimizes heat dissipation, so sleepers can find a cold surface at every turn.

At $999 CAD for a Queen, the Logan and Cove Choice mattress is still an affordable choice for Canadians. However, it falls short across all tested categories including comfort, breathability, and motion transfer. It is priced higher than Silk & Snow, even though it is less durable and may need to be replaced sooner.

Silk & Snow’s Hybrid model checks all of our boxes. Our testing showed it had the desirable softness required for pressure relief and spinal support, it sleeps cooler than it’s competitor, it eliminates motion transfer better, and is more affordable.
