Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.
Many mattress shoppers opt for an all-foam mattress, choosing it for its superb comfort at a fair price point. Foam mattresses are also excellent at eliminating motion transfer, and with the right level of firmness, they support your spine well. They’re a great choice for all types of sleepers! There are a lot of options available though, so it can be difficult to pick the perfect one for your sleeping needs.

If this type of bed is on your shopping list, you’ve probably looked into The Endy Mattress and The Casper Mattress. Each has its own set of strengths—both are medium-firm and offer comfort and support for a variety of sleeping positions. To help you decide, our team conducted some testing to evaluate each one, and we uncovered some surprising results. Let’s dive in to see which one is the best choice for you!

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

Throughout our testing, both mattresses held strong across our criteria of comfort, performance, breathability, and motion transfer. Our top pick is The Endy Mattress because not only is the quality amazing at a fair price point, but it also performed the best in most of the categories mentioned.

At first glance, the Endy and Casper have similar construction, with three layers of foam - fairly standard for an all-foam mattress. They differ in feel though: The Casper Mattress has more of “bounce,” so you don’t feel snug in the mattress, while The Endy Mattress feels more like what you would expect from a traditional foam mattress, offering comfort and support. This distinction becomes particularly important when you’re factoring in motion transfer, as the “bounce” in the Casper, means it doesn’t eliminate motion transfer as well as the Endy does.

Another similarity in each mattress is their top layer, which uses specific technology to enhance its breathability (this will be a crucial consideration for particularly hot sleepers). The Casper uses perforated foam for a cooling effect, while the Endy uses open-cell foam infused with cooling gel, to keep you at the perfect temperature. We’ll delve into this further.

If back pain is a concern, rest assured that both mattresses offer excellent spinal support. They also relieve pressure points in greater contact areas, such as your hips and shoulders, to prevent overall discomfort. Both the Endy and Casper mattress use ideal materials. However, I recommend The Endy Mattress to ensure you’re getting quality sleep for years to come.

Construction

The Endy Mattress

1. Comfort Foam Layer
As the name suggests, this layer was desined with comfort top of mind. It cradles your body gently to relieve pressure points without sacrificing support. In addition, open-cell technology provides airflow, allowing body heat to dissipate easily, instead of lingering while you’re trying to fall asleep. Lastly, it’s infused with cooling gel for a comfortable feel.

2. Transition Layer

This layer of responsive polyfoam provides support and holds you up, allowing you to sink into sleep without sinking into your mattress. It’s also responsible for eliminating motion transfer, so you don’t feel your partner’s movements throughout the night.

3. Support Layer
Offering support for the entirety of the mattress, this bottom layer is made of high-density support foam to provide a stable base.

The Casper Mattress

1. Casper Signature Foam
Unique to Casper, the top layer is perforated using AirScape™ Technology, with thousands of tiny holes working to release heat from the mattress. This responsive layer of foam is designed to soothe you to sleep with the perfect bit of bounce.

2. Premium Memory Foam
The second layer contours to your body the way memory foam typically does, while absorbing pressure points to ensure every sleeping position still feels comfortable.

3. ProSupport Foam
This provides long-lasting durability and prevents sinking and sagging of the mattress over time.

As with most all-foam mattresses, the Endy and the Casper each contain three foam layers. Both offer comfort, support, breathability and pressure point relief. A key distinction between the two, is that The Endy Mattress includes a layer specifically designed to eliminate motion transfer. It does this especially well – details on that later.

Another point of differentiation is the firmness: Endy ranks at 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, while Casper comes in at a solid 7. That half point may seem like a small difference, but for the amount of time you spend in bed, it can be an important one! The level of firmness that suits you better will ultimately come down to personal preference. However, it’s important to know medium-firm mattresses have been shown to improve sleep quality and reduce back pain. Endy hits the nail on the head with its level of firmness, while Casper’s 7 rating tips it more towards the “firm” side of the scale.

Comfort & Performance

Author’s Pick
The Endy Mattress
The Endy Mattress has everything you’d want to look for in a bed: it’s supportive enough to keep your spine in a healthy, neutral position (no more back aches!), while feeling as comfortable as a luxurious hotel bed. Its pressure point relief feature makes it a dream to sleep in, in any position, as you won’t notice any tension where your joints press into the mattress. Encompassing all of these features – you’re getting a great night’s sleep on this mattress.

The Casper Mattress
In comparison, The Casper Mattress has a highly responsive sleep surface that feels comfortable, but with a different feel compared to the Endy. It’s engineered to conform to your body while offering some bounce, preventing the sinking sensation when you lay on it. It also alleviates pressure points, enabling those who tend to toss and turn to achieve deeper, more restful sleep. Your pick will depend on your preference, whether it is the bouncier finish of The Casper Mattress or the support of The Endy Mattress.

Motion Transfer

If you share a bed with a partner or a pet, motion transfer will be high on your list of considerations when mattress shopping. Mattresses that eliminate motion transfer prevent movement on one side of the mattress from being felt on the other. All-foam mattresses usually perform well in this area, and these two are no exception. However, while The Casper Mattress has some bounce to it, our testing revealed that it wasn’t able to completely eliminate motion transfer the way The Endy Mattress does.
The Endy Mattress
The Endy Mattress had very strong results when it came to motion isolation. Its transition layer of foam successfully eliminates motion transfer, absorbing pressure where it’s applied and preventing it from moving across the mattress. Co-sleepers won’t notice their bedmate moving around.

The Casper Mattress
The Casper Mattress’s memory foam layer controls motion transfer, but doesn’t totally get rid of it. The bounciness of the responsive foam means limited motion can still be felt on the other side of the bed. It’s a solid option if motion transfer isn’t your top priority, but may not be the best choice for light sleepers.

Breathability

While feeling warm and cozy when first getting into bed may seem ideal, a cooler sleeping environment is typically recommended for deeper sleep. With that, the breathability of your mattress plays a big role in ensuring your sleep is sufficiently restful. Breathable mattresses release body heat instead of retaining it, ensuring you stay cool and comfortable.

Both The Endy Mattress and The Casper Mattress have factored this into their design, using technology to enhance your sleep experience. The Endy Mattress uses open-cell foam to increase airflow, so body heat is circulated and released throughout the night. The cooling gel within the top layer of foam also provides a cool-to-the-touch feel – a pleasant sensation as you’re drifting off.

Meanwhile, The Casper Mattress uses AirScape™ Technology to redirect heat. Its thousands of perforations maximize breathability, allowing air to move through the mattress. Both are particularly strong choices for hot sleepers, with excellent breathability, but overall Casper’s premium cooling technology wins out.

Conclusion

Both the Endy Mattress and The Casper Mattress are great options for all types of sleepers, each with its own unique features. Which one you select will ultimately depend on your personal preference and priorities.

To review their similarities, both are all-foam mattresses that check all the boxes in terms of pressure relief, breathability, comfort and support. Where they differ is firmness level, with the Endy Mattress being a medium-firm 6.5/10 firmness, while the Casper sits at a firmer 7/10. The Casper has more of a bounce, where the Endy feels like a traditional all-foam mattress. The Endy Mattress also outperforms Casper on motion transfer elimination.

Endy boasts an impressive 4.9/5-star rating from more than 31,000 verified customer reviews. The Casper isn’t quite as popular, with a 4.8-star rating on 125 reviews. Both Casper and Endy offer free and convenient delivery, arriving in 1-3 days in most major cities. Endy also offers same-day delivery within the Greater Toronto Area, for those looking for a great night’s sleep fast. They also share a 100-night risk-free trial, giving you the chance to test the mattress extensively yourself. Endy offers a 15-year limited warranty, while Casper’s is 10 years.

Overall, the Endy Mattress is my top recommendation as the best all-foam mattress due to the high level of comfort and quality, as well as its price point.
