Unboxing and First Impressions
The Avocado Green Mattress arrives at your doorstep vacuum-compressed and plastic-wrapped. After unboxing, it took about 4-5 hours to expand to its full form, and another two days to feel stable enough to test it out.
Construction

1. 2” Quilted Cover
The Avocado website has not declared the materials of the mattress; however, when we cut it open, we noticed there’s a 2” layer of quilted cover/ comfort layer.
2.8” Pocket Coils
The pocket coils offer a decent height for the mattress and are individually wrapped.
3. 1” Natural Latex
There is a 1” layer of latex on the mattress to provide sleepers with a comfortable sleep surface.
Comfort
The Avocado mattress was not as comfortable as I expected for a $3,499 CAD bed. The latex and coils weren’t as plush – or firm, for that matter – as I have experience with other mattresses, lacking in pressure relief and overall relaxation. The latex felt squishy, rather than supportive, leading to disappointment with the mattress’s comfort.
Firmness
The Avocado Green Mattress is available in two firmness options: medium and firm. We rated the medium firmness 5.5/10 and the firm a 6.5/10. However, even the firmer version did not necessarily offer the same firm feeling we see from similar medium-firm mattresses such as the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress. Unless you’re a side sleeper or a light-weight person, you may feel this mattress is too soft for you.
Motion Transfer
The Avocado Green Mattress did not impress in its motion-isolating properties. We noticed significant movement across the mattress as we tested, potentially causing light sleepers who share their bed to experience sleep disturbances.

Cooling
The Avocado Green Mattress does not have any specific cooling properties, and is not considered a cooling mattress. As there were no dedicated design elements to enhance airflow in this mattress, the surface temperature was considerably higher than most other mattresses we’ve tested. This may cause overheating for some hot sleepers, and the mattress may not be efficient enough in regulating body temperature.

Edge Support
The Avocado Green Mattress offers good edge support. We did not experience any slipping or falling off the edges of the mattress while sitting or lying closer to the perimeter.

Sinkage and Responsiveness
When sitting down on the mattress, we did notice we sank into the surface further than other organic or hybrid mattress competitors. The mattress did relatively well in adapting to body movements; however, the mattress took significantly longer to recover from them.
How does it suit different sleeping positions?
Side Sleepers
The Avocado Green mattress should be satisfactory for side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers may want to consider alternatives such as Silk & Snow Organic Mattress in medium-firm or firm.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers would benefit from a firmer mattress, such as the Silk & Snow Organic Firm.
Combination Sleepers
If sinkage and motion transfer are two of your sleep concerns and you require better responsiveness and faster recovery time from your mattress, you may want to explore different alternatives.
Lightweight Sleepers
Lightweight sleepers should find this mattress satisfactory.
Heavy People
Heavier individuals might benefit from a firmer mattress with more support. We recommend Made in Canada options like the Silk & Snow Organic Firm.
Should You Buy The Avocado Green Mattress?

We wouldn’t recommend the Avocado Green Mattress as we feel there are more affordable certified organic options with better performance available to Canadians. Other than good edge support and a 13” height, this mattress does not excel in key performance criteria such as comfort, breathability, motion isolation, or support. We recommend investing in thoughtfully designed mattresses such as the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress, which is Canadian-made, offers great value for money, and provides long-lasting comfort and support.
