About the Hush Mega Knit Weighted Blanket

Hush is a Canadian brand best known for its weighted blankets, and this is the largest and heaviest knit weighted blanket in its lineup. It takes the chunky knit design of the 15 lb Hush Knit Weighted Blanket and scales it up, with thick minky velour braids that add up to 30 lbs of weight across roughly 8 by 8 feet.

So how does a weighted blanket work? Like every Hush weighted blanket, this one relies on deep pressure stimulation: gentle, even weight that feels like a hug. According to Hush, that pressure activates your parasympathetic nervous system, helping lower cortisol and increase serotonin and melatonin to promote relaxation, stress relief and rest. Many use weighted blankets to ease anxiety and worry.

Unlike traditional weighted blankets, which use a quilted shell filled with glass beads or plastic pellets, this knit weighted blanket is an open braided weave with natural air pockets, so it stays cool and breathable. It works best as a statement piece: a weighted throw on the couch while watching TV, a cozy layer to cover your bed or the centrepiece of a reading nook.

Materials and Construction

This knit weighted blanket is made from minky velour, a soft, plush fabric that gives each braid a velvety look. Every blanket is braided by hand over roughly 20 hours, compared with about five hours for the standard Hush Knit Weighted Blanket, which explains the price gap.

The braids are what set it apart. Unlike traditional weighted blankets, which can trap body heat under a dense cover, its hand knit design leaves gaps between each braid so air can circulate and you stay cool. Hush says it stays breathable even under its full weight, which makes it a better fit for hot sleepers than a quilted 30 lb blanket. That said, 30 lbs of fabric still adds warmth, so it's at its best on cooler nights.

Weight & Colour Options

This knit weighted blanket comes in one size, one weight (30 lbs) and one colour: black. For more colour options, the Hush Knit Weighted Blanket comes in nine colours across cotton and minky velour.

Weight is the bigger consideration. The usual guideline is a weighted blanket that's about 10% of your body weight, so a 150 lb person would typically use a 15 lb blanket. On paper, 30 lbs is a lot of weight. However, given its dimensions, the Mega Knit spreads that weight across roughly three times the surface area of the 48" x 72" Hush Knit Weighted Blanket, so it puts less weight on each square inch of your body. For sleep, a 15 lb knit weighted blanket in a smaller size makes more sense.

Care and Cleaning

This knit weighted blanket has stricter care instructions than most weighted blankets. Hush recommends spot cleaning only: treat stains with a mild detergent, then let the area air dry. Unlike the standard Hush Knit Weighted Blanket, which you can wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, never machine wash it, even in cold water on a gentle cycle. A tumble dry can stretch the hand-knit braids.

Since you can't wash it fully, keep food and drinks away, and air dry any spot flat.

Availability, Shipping, and Returns

The Mega Knit is sold on hush.ca and in stock. Hush offers free shipping on orders over $75 to most provinces in Canada, excluding Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and PO boxes. In-stock orders typically arrive within 5 to 7 business days, duty-free.

Returns are where it differs most from other Hush products. Most Hush weighted blankets come with a 100-night guarantee, but this one is final sale: you can't return it for a full refund, and it's excluded from Hush's 1-year limited warranty. Several Hush products are also sold through retail partner Sleep Country, but we recommend buying this one directly from hush.ca.

Should You Buy the Hush Mega Knit Weighted Blanket?

This is a luxury knit weighted blanket, priced like one. If you want a knit weighted blanket that makes a statement and you love chunky braids, there's nothing quite like it in Canada. Its evenly distributed weight, breathable chunky weave and huge dimensions make it great for lounging, staying cool and stress relief.

That said, the final sale policy, spot-clean care and $1,199 price make it a big commitment. If you mainly want weighted blankets for restful sleep, or the option to try one risk-free, the 15 lb Hush Knit Weighted Blanket offers the same chunky knit, more colours and a 100-night trial for a fraction of the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to Hush blankets?

Nothing. Hush Blankets is still a Canadian company known for weighted blankets, now also selling bedding, mattresses and pillows like the Hybrid Adjustable Cooling Pillow, on hush.ca and at Sleep Country.

Does Hush still make weighted blankets?

Yes. Hush's current lineup of weighted blankets includes the Knit Weighted Blanket, the Iced Cooling Weighted Blanket, the Classic Weighted Blanket, a children's weighted blanket and the Mega Knit.

Are Hush blankets worth it?

For most people, yes. Most Hush weighted blankets come with a 100-night trial, so you can test one at home. The Mega Knit is the exception: it's final sale.

Why aren't you supposed to sleep with a weighted blanket?

Most healthy adults can sleep under weighted blankets, but they aren't recommended for babies, young children or anyone who can't easily remove the blanket on their own. If you have sleep apnea, breathing or circulation problems or concerns about blood pressure, talk to your doctor first. A 30 lb knit weighted blanket is also hard to shift overnight, so we see this one as a lounging blanket first.
