Product Research: Our Process

At Best Sleep Society, we carefully analyze mattress features to understand how they affect sleep quality. Our research process helps us evaluate comfort, support, and durability. This guide provides insight into how we assess the sleep experience.
Evaluating Comfort and Support
Our marking matrix is a detailed scoring system that evaluates each mattress based on critical aspects like comfort, support, durability, and temperature regulation. Expert sleep testers conduct an extensive analysis that considers various body types and sleep positions, ensuring comprehensive and relevant ratings for a wide audience.
Long-Term Performance Assessment
As mattresses age, they may undergo wear and tear, potentially affecting their initial comfort and support. To address this, our long-term analysis includes feedback from users who have slept on the mattresses for extended periods. This allows us to evaluate how well the products perform in real-world use and whether they maintain their shape, support, and overall quality over time.
Why We Look at Additional Services
In addition to our in-house tests and analysis, we thoroughly evaluate customer service, warranty policies, and setup and delivery ease. These factors play a crucial role in overall consumer satisfaction. A positive experience from purchase to longevity reflects a brand's commitment to quality and customer care, completing our comprehensive product research approach.

The Nectar Memory Foam Mattress: A Budget Mattress Made In the USA

Our Verdict

Nectar’s Memory Foam Mattress is a 5-layer mattress made in the USA by the American brand. With a 12” height and a support layer, this mattress provides adequate comfort for most sleepers, and offers a medium firmness that suits most back, side and combination sleepers. While I tested this mattress for my weight (127 lbs) and my partner’s weight (160 lbs), and we felt this mattress provided enough support for both of us, heavier people may want to consider The Endy Mattress.

Purchasing and Returns

You can purchase the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress online from Nectar’s Canadian website, nectarsleep.ca, or authorized retailers like The Brick. I ordered the mattress online, and it took 4 business days to get delivered. Nectar offers a lifetime warranty and a 365-night trial; however, I recommend reading through their return policy before purchase, as there are certain limitations to returning items.

Unboxing and First Impressions

This mattress arrives at your doorstep similar to other mattress-in-a-box models, vacuum compressed and wrapped in plastic. It took about 1.5 days for the mattress to expand to its full form, so I would recommend giving it 48 hours before your first sleep, although the brand claims you can sleep on it right away. My first impressions? This mattress offers a medium feel, and offers adequate comfort. There wasn’t enough bounce to suit my liking, and I did not find the cooling cover to provide the same temperature regulation as mattresses that have cooling-gel infused foam, like The Endy Mattress.

Construction

1. Breathable Cover
The Nectar Memory Foam features quick-dry polyethylene fibres to wick away moisture.

2. 2” Gel-Infused Memory Foam

This gel-infused layer offers a breathable feel and contributes to the pressure-relieving properties of the mattress.

3. 3” Dynamic Response Layer

This layer caters to maintaining a neutral spine and a responsive feel.

4. 7” Base Layer
The thick base layer is intended to provide support and ensure durability.

5. Shift-Resistant Lower Cover
This cover ensures all layers stay in place and prevents the mattress from developing clumps or sagging.

Comfort

The Nectar Memory Foam provides a contouring feel for your body with its fully foam construction. Although it lacked bounce, I did not experience any discomfort moving around on this mattress. As a combination sleeper, I felt like it could improve on responsiveness, as the mattress surface took a while to recover from my movements, but it was certainly not a dealbreaker for me.

Firmness

We rated this mattress 6/10 on our firmness scale, a medium feel that suits most side, combination and back sleepers.  For lightweight stomach sleepers, this firmness may still offer adequate support and comfort. Bigger-bodied sleepers may or may not like this firmness depending on their sleep preferences. I would recommend exploring alternatives such as The Endy Firm

Motion Transfer

If there was one criterion of the Nectar Mattress they could improve, it would be their motion-isolating properties. As I tested the mattress with my partner, both of us experienced some struggle staying asleep during the tosses and turns. I felt noticeable movements on my side of the bed as my partner got in and out of bed. However, if you do not share your bed, this may not be a downside you may experience.

Cooling

Other than the breathable cover, the Nectar Mattress does not feature any cooling-specific technology. However, it did not necessarily overheat. If you’re a hot sleeper, I would recommend looking at Made-in-Canada mattresses such as The Casper or The Endy.

Edge Support

The Nectar Mattress offers strong edge support, and I was quite impressed with how the perimeter of the mattress withstood weights and did not sink significantly.

Sinkage and Responsiveness

I did not notice any deep sinking on the Nectar mattress, which reinforced my observation on the medium firmness. While the sinkage test gave satisfactory results, I was not too impressed with the bounce and responsiveness of the mattress. I felt like these were two areas this mattress could slightly improve to enhance the overall sleep experience.

How does it suit different sleeping positions?

Side Sleepers

The Nectar mattress should be satisfactory for side sleepers.

Back Sleepers

Light to medium-weight back sleepers should find this mattress satisfactory. Heavier back sleepers may want to consider Made in Canada alternatives such as The Endy Firm.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers would benefit from a firmer mattress, such as The Endy Firm, as this mattress may not provide adequate support to maintain a neutral spine for them.

Combination Sleepers

The Nectar mattress provides ample comfort and support for combination sleepers; however, if responsiveness and motion transfer are two of your sleep concerns, you may want to explore different alternatives such as The Endy

Lightweight Sleepers

Lightweight sleepers should find this mattress satisfactory.

Heavy People

Heavier individuals might benefit from a firmer mattress with more support. We recommend Made in Canada options like The Endy Firm.

Should You Buy The Nectar Mattress?

Nectar Mattress offers a budget option for those who don’t mind purchasing from a US-based company. With a medium feel, this mattress should satisfy side, combination and back sleepers, although bigger-bodied persons and stomach sleepers may look for more support on a firmer sleep surface. I noticed the mattress performed well in edge support and pressure relief, but lacked in motion isolation, cooling, and responsiveness.

When I compare this mattress with similar memory foam mattresses and Canadian brands I’ve tested, such as The Endy, I feel that they provide better bang for your buck, especially in the long term. If you prioritize price over value, the Nectar Mattress is offered at a competitive price.
