Which is better: Silk and Snow or Douglas?

Going head-to-head, our testing results position Silk and Snow’s S&S Mattress as a better option than the Douglas Original.

In general, memory foam mattresses offer exceptional comfort without breaking the bank, and typically excel in reducing motion transfer. If you are opting for an all-foam mattress, we love the S&S mattress for its durability, comfort, and value. Silk and Snow offers a 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and a bedding bundle with the purchase of every S&S mattress, all for $1 more than the Douglas. The Silk & Snow S&S also has impressive construction: it’s made of 2.5lb premium cooling-gel infused foam, supported by 1.8lb base foam for optimal comfort and sturdiness. Overall, our testers enjoyed the pressure relief, motion isolation, and long-lasting support of the S&S, and the options to select a firmness level that suits their needs.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

After lengthy testing, we recommend the Silk and Snow S&S Mattress. This mattress scored high for comfort, performance, breathability and motion transfer. Testers across all sleeping types ranked this model highly in various categories, leading us to believe that Silk and Snow’s S&S offers unparalleled comfort and support for most sleepers. Hot sleepers also commended this contender for its breathability, dissipating body heat through its GlacialAirTM technology to create a cool sleeping environment. The Douglas mattress is $1 less than Silk and Snow’s S&S model, however, we did not find the Douglas mattress offered a superior sleep experience.. Silk and Snow did not require any “break-in” period for use, whereas the Douglas website lists tips and tricks to “break-in” their mattress.

Overall, the Silk and Snow Mattress takes the cake for us, with our testers unanimously ranking their high-quality mattress over the Douglas.

S&S Mattress

Douglas Original

1. ecoLight® Gel Foam
This cooling foam top layer offers an alternative to traditional memory foam, which tends to retain heat.

2. Elastex® Foam
The middle layer mimics a natural latex foam in support and responsiveness, providing what you’d expect from an all-foam mattress.

3. Motion Isolation Support Foam
The bottom layer is designed to reduce motion transfer, although it doesn’t fully eliminate it – more on that later.

You may have observed that both the S&S and Douglas mattresses are composed of multiple foam layers, which is a notable similarity between them. However, we think the makeup of the S&S mattress was a key attribute to why the mattress impressed our testers.

Studies indicate that a medium-firm mattress promotes better sleep quality and alleviates back pain. When a mattress is too soft or too firm, it can lead to spinal misalignment as the hips and shoulders are not level, causing discomfort. While both the S&S and Douglas mattresses are considered to be medium-firm, the S&S mattress is also offered in Firm and Plush, allowing you to test and choose the surface that suits your sleeping style and needs of your body.

Overall, our testers felt S&S Mattress achieved an optimal level of firmness to maintain a neutral spine alignment throughout the night. The durable and high-quality materials used in the S&S mattress make it a worthwhile investment for your sleep. Its GlacialAir Foam effectively alleviates pressure points while providing a cool sleep surface for a comfortable drifting-off experience. If you’re someone who is concerned about back pain or seeking pressure-relief, it is worth considering the S&S Mattress as part of achieving the perfect sleep.

Comfort and Performance

Author’s Pick
Silk and Snow Mattress
The comfort offered by the Silk and Snow S&S Mattress is unparalleled, providing both luxury and support. Its impressive design integrates plush cushioning and body-contouring foam layers, complemented by a machine-washable antimicrobial cover. Notably, the mattress boasts a plush quilted top, delivering outstanding pressure point relief and facilitating ideal spinal alignment to ensure a restorative sleep.

Douglas Original
The Douglas Mattress cradles the body, with an enveloping feel. A common concern regarding memory foam mattresses is that they are perceived to be softer than hybrid or coil mattresses. If you’re someone who prefers a firmer mattress, the Douglas Original may not satisfy your needs. However, the S&S Firm is a firm version of the Silk & Snow memory foam option discussed in this article, and may be worth considering.

Motion Transfer

When addressing motion transfer, we’re examining how much movement from one side of the mattress can be felt by someone on the other side. While all-foam mattresses generally perform well in reducing motion transfer, when we compare the Douglas mattress vs Silk and Snow S&S mattress, the S&S mattress showed less vibration across the sleep surface. . The S&S Mattress effectively eradicates motion transfer, ensuring that any movements made by your sleeping partner (or pet) won’t disrupt your rest.
Silk and Snow
We found the Silk and Snow Mattress had strong results for motion isolation. Its quilted foam top layer effectively absorbed any movement, preventing it from travelling across the mattress. Little movement can be felt, so light sleepers can sleep soundly.

Douglas
Based on our testing, the Douglas Mattress does offer a certain degree of motion transfer reduction, which is typical of foam mattresses.

Breathability

When selecting a mattress, we recommend prioritizing one that ensures you remain cool and comfortable throughout the night is crucial, especially if you’re a hot sleeper. When we compare Douglas vs Silk and Snow, the Silk and Snow S&S Mattress distinguishes itself with its remarkable capacity to regulate temperature and notably superior airflow.. This can be attributed to the S&S’s strategic utilization of non-toxic materials and an antimicrobial layer, which work to mitigate heat retention. Moreover, the S&S’s premium quilted foam enhances the overall cooling experience by upholding a consistently comfortable surface.

After comparing Silk and Snow mattress vs Douglas Original, our testers, including myself, love the S&S mattress. Despite sharing a similar all-foam construction, the S&S Mattress outshines its counterpart in several key aspects.
